AAA Scholarship Programs help children enter the adult world by subsidizing education in the areas of automotive repair, hospitality management and creative arts.
Co-sponsored by AAA and Ford Motor Company, this annual competition awards millions of dollars in scholarships and prizes to high-school students interested in pursuing a career in automotive repair. AAA's goal is to help curb the increasing shortage of qualified automobile repair technicians, thereby improving the auto repair experience for AAA members. High school students from every state compete in the annual event, which features both a written examination and hands-on repair competition. An international competition is held at the same time and is organized through AAA's international affiliations.
Encourages youngsters to study geography and to consider careers in the travel and tourism industry. Ninth through 12th grade public, private and home-schooled students throughout the United States can put their travel knowledge to the test for great prizes -- including $156,000 in college scholarship funds -- and a chance to compete in the national finals in Orlando, FL.
The AAA North American Road Atlas, produced in-house for the first time, went on sale at retail outlets in January, 1985, and made The New York Times paperback best seller list 6 weeks later.
